Vegetation Management

Trees and other vegetation are an essential part of the charm of Texas and are vital to the economy. However, they are also the biggest cause of outages and blinking lights. Regular trimming to direct growth away from power lines helps prevent outages and damages that require costly repair.

Outside contractors are hired by Medina EC to trim and remove any vegetation close to the cooperative’s power lines. When necessary, mechanical and non-restrictive herbicides are used to accomplish this.

Any dead, weak, leaning or dangerous trees tall enough to strike the wires or poles when falling are also removed. This helps reduce the number and duration of power outages.

If you see any trees that have grown into the power lines, please call 1-866-MEC-ELEC (632-3532) and report it. Medina EC will investigate the situation and, if necessary, will have trained professionals with the necessary safety gear and equipment respond.

Tips

Help stop potential power line problems before they start by practicing these safety measures:

  •  If you notice anything such as trees or branches that might interfere with power lines or pose a serious threat, please call 1-866-MEC-ELEC (632-3532). Please do not try and remove vegetation around power lines yourself as you could be seriously injured or killed.
  •  If you are planning to plant trees on your property, make sure not to plant them directly under or near power lines.
  •  Shrubs, hedges and other plants should be kept clear of poles.
