Tuesday evening's storm impacted the southern portion of our service area. The worst damage appears to have struck in Zapata and Starr counties. Crews responded to outages overnight, and they continue to assess damage to the electric system. At this time, it appears most of the damage is from high winds. As of 8:30 a.m., crews have located 12 poles that have fallen or snapped in half and found multiple pieces of debris from barns and homes in power lines.

You can track the numbers and progress on our outage map. Crews are focusing on restoring power to main line sections and then will begin visiting individual locations off of those main lines to make necessary repairs. Contractors have been helping since the overnight hours when the first downed poles were located.

Crews will continue working to restore power to all members and expect to have everyone back on by this evening based on the damage we are aware of at this time. We will update members if we find any damage that changes those estimates.

  • Be sure your outage is reported through SmartHub or 1-866-MEC-ELEC.
  • Stay safe.
  • Do not approach downed power lines. Even if you do not have power, these lines can still have electricity running through them.
  • Outage restoration follows a process, where power is restored to larger groups of members and then crews work down to individual locations.
