Crews restored power to the last meter from yesterday morning's storms at 4 a.m. Around 6:30 a.m., another storm cell moved through the most southern part of our service area causing additional outages. At this time, we have about 740 meters in Starr, Webb, Brooks, Zapata and Jim Hogg counties without power. This cell is expected to continue dumping rain in the area until close to noon. We are also hearing reports from our employees of lightning and high winds, which can cause additional issues on the system.

Crews continue to respond even during the storm, as long as it is safe to do so.

Until it stops raining, we are not able to fully assess the damage caused by the storm. We will post another update around 5 p.m. to let members know what crews expect based on what they have accomplished up to that point and based on how difficult it is to access locations, since most of the ground in the area is already saturated.

You can track the numbers and progress on our outage map.

Medina EC continues to monitor scattered and severe thunderstorms expected to impact at least parts of our 17 county service area through the end of this week.

  • Be sure your outage is reported through SmartHub or 1-866-MEC-ELEC.
  • Stay safe.
  • Do not approach downed power lines. Even if you do not have power, these lines can still have electricity running through them.
  • Outage restoration follows a process, where power is restored to larger groups of members and then crews work down to individual locations.
  • Do not drive through high water. Turn around, don't drown.
