Medina Electric Cooperative held its 81st Annual Membership Meeting on September 28, 2019, and welcomed over 400 attendees at the Graff 7A Ranch in Hondo, Texas. Members enjoyed a breakfast buffet, fellowship with members and meeting with employees. The meeting included election results, an update on cooperative business and door prizes. The employees and board members of Medina EC extend their thanks to all who attended.

CEO Mark Rollans noted that energy sales continue to increase and that the co-op continues to build infrastructure to keep up with demand. Rollans also highlighted the co-op’s new solar program, Solar by Medina EC. Members can purchase a 5-kilowatt ground-mounted solar panel system for $15,000 plus tax, installed by the co-op. Rollans stated “we’re excited to offer members this opportunity to purchase solar panels directly from us—their trusted energy advisor.”

President Glenn Schweers was recognized for his years of service to the cooperative. Schweers, who chose not to run for reelection this year, steps down after 21 years on the board. Schweers said “it’s been a good experience, and I’ll always remember it.” He was first elected in 1994 and has since held numerous officer positions including serving on the board of San Miguel Electric Cooperative, a co-op that produces some of the power we purchase for our members.

Medina Electric Cooperative is run by a 9-person board, elected by our members. The results for the 2019 election were announced at the meeting:

District 1: Ken Weynand

District 2: Chris Surles

District 3: Annette Sorrells

After the meeting concluded, members were free to wander the grounds of the Graff 7A Ranch. Those who received wrist bands as their free member gift for attending were able to return later that evening to enjoy the maize and live music.
