As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Medina Electric Cooperative is run by a board of directors elected by the membership. Medina EC has nine board members—three per voting district, who serve three-year terms. Each year, a seat in each of our three voting districts is available for election.
This year, only Voting District 2 has a contested race. The candidates are as follows:
- Jim L. Gates
- Chris C. Surles
Voting Districts 1 and 3 were uncontested, and as a result, incumbent directors Ken Weynand from Voting District 1 and Annette Sorrells from Voting District 3 were certified as elected by the certification committee in April.
More information about all candidates is available at MedinaEC.org/BoardElection. Medina EC’s election is managed by Survey and Ballot System who receives all ballots. Medina EC members who wish to vote in the election can do so by following the instructions provided on their mailed ballot, the instructions emailed to their email address on file, or by going directly to their SmartHub account. Online voting will close at 5 p.m. on September 16 and paper ballots need to be received by September 16 to be counted in the election.
Results of the election will be announced at Medina EC’s 83rd Annual Membership Meeting at Texas A&M International University on September 24, 2022. Learn more about Annual Membership Meeting and RSVP at MedinaEC.org/AnnualMeeting2022.
If you would like to run for a seat on Medina EC’s Board of Directors in 2023, nominating meetings will be held in the first quarter of the year. Times and locations will be posted on MedinaEC.org/NomMtg closer to January 2023.
